More than 40 passengers escaped death when their bus, a LAGBUS, caught fire. The incident occurred about 1045am yesterday at Berger bus stop on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The bus, which picked the passengers at the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) corridor at Berger, had just linked the expressway when it caught fire. Smoke was noticed from the airconditioning compartment on the roof of the LAGBUS coach which was heading to Lagos.
The driver swiftly steered the bus to the kerb while the passengers rushed out of the bus. Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTM) and traffic wardens helped to control the traffic while the fire was quickly extinguished.
A LAGBUS official told our correspondent that the coach was being operated by one of company’s franchisees.
