FG Job Portal Registers 403,000 Applicants In 36 Hours

The jobs portal of the Federal Government, “n-power.gov.ng,” has recorded over 403,000 successful registrations, since it opened for submissions on June 12, the Vice Presidential Spokesman, Laolu Akande said on Monday.

Quoting the Job Creation Unit in the Presidency, Akande said: “We have been very impressed by the enthusiastic response to the call for applications.

“As at noon on Monday June 13, only 36 hours after the launch of the portal, 403,528 applicants have successfully registered on the site and were in the middle of completing the application process.”

The statement was credited to Mr Afolabi Imoukhede, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation.

“We are also very pleased that the registrations have been taking place without any hitches or system failures, considering the volume of response.”

“All together the website has received over 35 million hits since Saturday midnight,’’ it said.

The Jobs Scheme, known as ‘N-Power’, is one of the five initiatives of the Social Investment Programmes of the Federal Government.

N-Power is designed to help young Nigerians acquire and develop life-long skills to become solution providers in their communities and to become players in the domestic and global markets.

It will provide employment opportunities for 500,000 graduates as teachers, agriculture extension advisers, healthcare assistants, and civic and adult education instructors in communities across Nigeria.

There will also be a pool of 100,000 software developers, hardware service professionals, animators, graphic artists, building services professionals, artisans and others.

Applications for the scheme began on Sunday June 12 on the portal: www.npower.gov.ng, and would open for some days, after which screening and short listing will be carried out.

President Muhammadu Buhari had in his Democracy Day Speech described the social safety net programme as “by far the most ambitious social protection programme in our history.”

About N500 billion was provided for the programme in the 2016 Budget.

The statement noted that the presidency assured Nigerians that the application process would be structurally robust, transparent and fair, while the selection process would also be based on objective criteria devoid of party affiliations.

It added that unemployed Nigerians both graduate and non-graduates would be drawn from across the country on state by state basis in the final analysis.

FG Commences Recruitment Of 500,000 Graduates

In what is the first roll out of its N500bn social investment programmes, the Buhari presidency will start taking applications online for positions in the 500,000 direct teacher jobs scheme, through an internet portal named npower.gov.ng.

While the portal would be live on Saturday June 11, applications are expected to start coming in on June 12, the beginning of next week. Young unemployed Nigerians are advised to visit the website and apply.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari in his May 29th Democracy Day broadcast to the nation formally launched the unprecedented social investment programmes already provided for under the 2016 Appropriation by the administration.

The 500,000 Teacher Corps, nicknamed N-Power Teach on the portal, is one of the three direct job creation and training schemes Nigerians can start applying for from Sunday, June 12.

Others are N-Power Knowledge which will train 25,000 Nigerians in the area of technology, and N-Power Build, which train another 75,000 in the areas of building services, construction, utilities, hospitality and catering, automotive vocations, aluminium and gas services.

All trainees would be paid for the duration of their training.

The N-Power Teacher Corps initiative which will engage and train 500,000 young unemployed graduates, is a paid volunteer programme of a 2-year duration. Unemployed Nigerians selected and trained will play teaching, instructional, and advisory roles in primary, and secondary schools, agricultural extension systems across the country, public health and community education-covering civic and adult education.

Besides their monthly take home pay estimated at about N23,000, the selected 500,000 graduates will also get computer devices that will contain information necessary for their specific engagement, as well as information for their continuous training and development. They get to keep the devices even after exiting from the program.

According to the plan of the Buhari administration, the N-Power Teacher Corps programme is an invaluable opportunity for young Nigerians to make immense economic and social contributions to the nation while developing their skills. It will also help to address the problems of inadequate teachers in public schools.

Also, persons enlisted under the scheme will gain work experience and acquire key competencies through academic and non-academic capacity building programmes intended to improve their competitiveness in the workplace. Their devices will come loaded with knowledge-oriented applications and software that will enable them acquire the skills and capacity.

Under the N-Power Knowledge scheme, there are three aspects: Creative, Technology Software and Hardware. These three sub-divisions would will train 25,000 young Nigerians in all.

5000 of them would be trained in Animation, Graphic Design, Post-Production, Script-Writing. All of those under the sub-division of N-Power Knowledge-creative category.

The N-Power Knowledge scheme also has a technology category in two aspects: hardware and software. 10,000 Nigerians would be trained, and equipped in the area of software development, including web designers, and another 10,000 in hardware expertise including to repair, maintain and assemble mobile phones, tablets, computers and other devices.

Also the N-Power Build category was designed realizing that the presence of a well-trained and highly skilled youth population in any economy has direct impact on entrepreneurship/wealth creation, which in turn leads to a decline in unemployment.

N-Power Build is therefore an accelerated training and certification (Skills to Job/Enterprise) programme that will engage and train 75,000 young unemployed Nigerians in order to build a new crop of skilled and highly competent workforce of technicians, artisans and service professionals.

Police Recruitment Records 15,000 Applications In Three Days

Over 15,000 candidates have so far applied for enlistment into the Nigeria Police Force, it was learnt on Sunday.

Our correspondent gathered that the two portals being used for the recruitment were witnessing record traffic as thousands of unemployed youths applied for recruitment into the police as constables, cadet inspectors and cadet assistant superintendent of police, respectively.

The PSC Commissioner in charge of Media, Comfort Obi, told our correspondent on Sunday that over 15,000 candidates had applied, noting that only 10,000 applicants would be recruited.

“Over 15,000 applicants have so far applied ; you know there is no job in the country, so many people are interested in joining the police. The exercise would run for six weeks in compliance with the directive from the Federal Character Commission which said that recruitment exercise must run for at least six weeks to enable all interested persons, qualified Nigerians to apply. However, only 10,000 will be recruited,” she explained.

The exercise started on Friday.

The Police Service Commission had directed interested candidates to apply through its website, www.psc.gov.ng or that of the Nigeria Police Force, www.npf.gov.ng.

Checks indicate that the two websites were now working well, having overcome the initial hiccups when the recruitment exercise commenced last Friday.

Many candidates who could not access the portals which crashed, had to go back home in disappointment.

The problem seems to have been rectified as our correspondent was able to access the two websites without delay on Sunday.

Candidates for police constables are expected to possess five credit level passes including Mathematics and English Language in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination in not more than two sittings.

For cadet inspectors, in addition to having the requirements of police constables, candidates would be expected to have either an Ordinary National Diploma, Advanced Level, National Certificate of Education or their equivalents.

Candidates for cadet ASPs must possess a university degree or a Higher National Diploma, the PSC said.

Police Begin Recruitment Nationwide

The Police Service Commission (PSC), said Thursday that the long-awaited recruitment of 10,000 police personnel, will commence across the country on Friday.
A statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, said the exercise follows last year’s directive by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The statement reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari had last year at the National Security Summit in Abuja directed the recruitment of 10,000 Nigerians into the Force to address the obvious shortfall in the manpower needs of the Police.
“Speaking on the recruitment exercise yesterday, the Chairman of the Commission, Sir (Dr.) Mike Mbama Okiro warned the Staff of the Commission who will be involved in the screening of candidates to avoid any act that will compromise the integrity of the exercise. Sir Okiro said any Staff involved in any misconduct during the exercise will be sanctioned in line with the Public Service Rules and may be prosecuted for sabotage.
“He said the staff must live above board as the Commission is ready to make a huge success of this presidential assignment in line with its resolution to discharge its duties within the ambit of the law, transparently, and according to laid down rules.
“Sir Okiro also warned the candidates to desist from indulging or inducing the Staff of the Commission as anyone caught will be arrested and prosecuted. He reiterated that there will be no short cut in the exercise as everything has been put in place to ensure that the integrity of the process will be preserved at all the stages of the exercise.
“He explained that the Nigeria Police Force deserves the best brains in the Nigerian society, stressing that the Commission will ensure that only the best will be engaged as Policemen who will sustain the cherished tradition of the Force and also help to maintain peace as well as securing lives and property of Nigerians and non-Nigerians…”

Nigeria Police Begin Recruitment Of 10,000 Personnel

nigerian_police_703745209

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has warned that there would be no short-cut into the Nigeria Police Force in the recruitment of 10,000 personnel.

President Muhammadu Buhari had in 2015 approved the recruitment of 10,000 policemen at the National Security Summit in Abuja.

In a statement Wednesday, Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations of the commission, told journalists that Mike Okiro, Chairman of the commission, gave the warning while unveiling a portal for the exercise in Abuja.

The statement said that the portal would be opened to the public on April 1 to herald the commencement of the exercise.

“The process leading to the recruitment of 10,000 Policemen as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari at the National Security Summit in Abuja last year, has commenced,” the statement said.

It said the unveiling of the portal was in actualisation of the presidential directive on the recruitment of the 10,000 Policemen.

The statement noted that the exercise was remarkable because there had not been recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force for more than five years.

It said that thousands of policemen who died in the course of service, dismissed or retired, had not been replaced since the last five years.

The statement stressed that the recruitment would strengthen and re-energise the force to tackle more security challenges facing the country.

It explained that the exercise could not begin last year because the funding was not captured in the 2015 budget.

The statement urged interested applicants to access the portal through the commission’s website: www.psc.gov.ng or that of the Nigeria Police Force: www.npf.gov.ng.

It said that no fee would be charged for the processing of the forms which would be filled on-line.

“We are not charging money. It is free, absolutely free,” it said.

The statement said that the exercise would be in three entry points of Constable, Cadet Inspector and Cadet ASP, while there would also be recruitment into the Specialist cadre.

It said that applicants for Police Constables are expected to possess five credits including Mathematics and English Language at Senior School Certificate Examination in not more than two sittings.

It said that for Cadet Inspectors, in addition to having the requirements of Police Constables, candidates would be expected to have an Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Advanced Level (A level), National Certificate in Education (NCE) or their equivalents.

The statement said Candidates for Cadet ASP must possess a University degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND).
