The House Committee On Interior yesterday organised a Public Hearing for an Act to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC) to train, educate and re-orient the youths of this nation, particularly students, to facilitate Peace and Youth Development and for other related matters in furtherance of its legislative actions on the bill.
Speaking at the occasion held at the Conference Hall of House Committee on Interior, National Assembly complex in Abuja, the Chairman of the House committee on Interior said the hearing was organised to allow members of the public to make inputs into the bill.
Also, the participants at the Nigerian Peace Corps Hearing, described the bill as timely and observed that its passage would complement the efforts of security agencies in maintaining peace in Nigeria.
Hon. Evang. Okloho John, who is the member representing Adoka/Ugboju State Constituency in Otukpo Local Government area in Benue State, agreed to support the Bill for an Act to Establish the Nigerian Peace Corps
One of the representative at the Hearing debunked insinuations that the members of the Nigerian Peace Corps would be used for political gains.
Participants at the Public Hearing cut across stakeholders such as Nigeria Army, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Police, Federal Road Service Corps, Federal Ministry of Interior, Federal Ministry of Education, Federal Ministry of Health, Federal Ministry of Youth and Development, Federal Ministry of Environment, Federal Ministry of Justice, Federal Ministry of Tourism, National Security Adviser, National Youth Service Corps, UNESCO, INEC, Boys Scout of Nigeria, to mention few.

The Nigerian Peace Corps Bill now await the third reading after the successful Public Hearing.
