After all odds, the Public Hearing organised by House of Representatives Committee on Interior ended in favour of Nigerian Peace Corps.
On 20th April, 2016, Senate Committee on Interior held the Public Hearing for an Act to Establish the Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC) SB. 173 and National Unity and Peace Corps (NUPEC) SB. 183.
DGossip247 learnt that, about 30 stakeholders submitted Memoranda for the hearing and only 3 stakeholders submitted Memoranda against the establishment of Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC) SB. 173 and National Unity and Peace Corps (NUPEC) SB. 183.
DGossip247 also learnt that, the Ag. Chairman Senate Committee on Interior, Senator Usman Nafada (CON) explained the significant of Bill and also explained further that the two Bills are important to Nigeria society. If Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC) and National Unity and Peace Corps (NUPEC) has been in existence before now, these two Coprs will quickly inform the Police or Army that some gangs has taken Chibok Girls. So, we need to have this in place for future occurence (s).
Therefore, 27 stakeholders were in support for an Act to Establish Nigerian Peace Corps and National Unity and Peace Corps at Senate Committee on Interior Public Hearing while 3 stakeholders were against.
Eighteen years after its establishment, the Nigeria Peace Corps has taken a step closer to becoming legally recognised as a para-military government agency' as the Bill awaits third reading.
