After one month of intense football action, the Le Blues of France will today take on Portugal in the Euro 2016 final with the hope of winning a European Championship on home soil for the second time.

br />Coach Didier Deschamps’ side are again presented with the opportunity to replicated what Michel Platini and his teammates did at Euro 84, when France last won the European title. It was a competition that saw Platini score a tournament record nine goals on route to lifting the trophy.

They face a Portuguese side looking to win their first major tournament, having lost 1-0 to Greece in their only other appearance in a European Championship final, in 2004.

Portugal have lost their last 10 games against France, who in Antoine Griezmann boast the competition’s top scorer with six goals, but midfielder Joao Mario believes they can spring a surprise at the Stade de France.

“France is playing at home but they haven’t shown their spectacular football,” he said at a pre-match press conference.

“We know we always lose to them but this will motivate us.

The French media are sure of the win (for France.) We have lost a final already but this time we can make it. Probability counts for nothing and all the Portuguese bet on us. There is nothing like playing in a competition like this for our country.”

Pepe has been passed fit for Portugal’s Euro 2016 final clash against France on Sunday after returning to full training.

The Real Madrid defender missed Wednesday’s semi-final win over Wales with a thigh injury and had been considered a doubt ahead of the Paris showpiece against the hosts. William Carvalho is expected to return to the starting line-up after missing the semi-final through suspension.

Gareth Bale hailed Real Madrid colleague Cristiano Ronaldo as a "natural goalscorer" after he netted in Portugal's 2-0 Euro 2016 semi-final win over Wales.

The showdown between the two Madrid heavyweights dominated the pre-match headlines and it was Ronaldo who shone brightest.

His powerful 50th-minute header saw him equal Michel Platini's record of nine European Championship goals, with Ronaldo then turning provider – albeit perhaps inadvertently – for Nani's goal three minutes later.

And Bale told ITV of his club-mate: "Obviously he's a natural goalscorer and he scored yet again.

"But as I said it's not about them, it's about us. We'll pick ourselves up. We're a proud bunch. We have to be proud of what we've achieved in this tournament.

"We want to thank all the fans obviously – the support we have had is absolutely incredible."

Wales were at least the equal of their opponents in a tight first half and Bale reflected on what he felt were fine margins that decided the outcome.

"They got their first goal and were lucky on the second," he added. "We tried our hardest to get back into the game and fought until the last second.

"We gave everything. We have no regrets."

Fernando Santos' side will meet hosts France or world champions Germany in the final.

John Stones says England are “quietly confident” going into Euro 2016 and reckons they are contenders to win the tournament.

Stones was confirmed in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man squad on Tuesday as one of only seven specialist defenders and three full-time centre-backs in the list.

Having only made the standby list for the World Cup in Brazil two years ago, he is one of a handful of players set to taste tournament football for the first time, joining the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and 18-year-old Marcus Rashford.

However, unscarred by past disappointment at previous summer competitions, the 22-year-old Everton defender is going in brimming with optimism.

“It’s tough because you don’t want to put pressure on it, but I’d like to think we’re among the contenders,” he told Everton’s official website: “I’ve been saying we’re quietly confident to people, but obviously all the big teams will feel the same.

“We’ve beaten France and Germany since we qualified, which is a big boost and something that will hopefully stand us in good stead if we come up against them at any point.

“If you’re going to a Euros, you’re going there to win it, because what’s the point in not? We’re proud as players and we want to make the nation proud too.”

England play their final warm-up match against Portugal at Wembley on Thursday before they get their Euro 2016 campaign underway against Russia on June 11, reports Sky Sports.

Forwards Manuel “Nolito” Agudo and Alvaro Morata each scored twice as Spain routed South Korea 6-1 in a warmup game on Wednesday ahead of the European Championship.
David Silva and Cesc Fabregas also found the net and the defending champions had two more goals disallowed for offside as they showed remarkable efficiency in attack after being held 0-0 for the opening half hour.

Nolito has now scored four times in eight matches for Spain, while Morata repaid the faith of coach Vicente Del Bosque, who overlooked Chelsea forward Diego Costa for his Euro 2016 squad in favour of the Juventus striker.
Spain dominated possession from the start but struggled to create danger, and its sloppy passing in midfield even gave South Korea the first chance.
Midfielder Son Heung-min appeared alone in front of Iker Casillas but his overhasty attempt went wide.
Andres Iniesta had his 20-meter effort saved by keeper Kim Jin-hyeon, who also blocked a low diagonal shot by Hector Bellerin.
Silva broke the deadlock with a stunning 25-meter free kick in the 30th, and Fabregas doubled the lead just two minutes later after Kim failed to catch the ball in what appeared to be a harmless situation, reports The Associated Press.
Nolito made it 3-0 in the 38th after wrong footing the defence with a disguised move and directing the ball through Kim’s legs.
Morata scored from a corner taken by Thiago early in the second half, heading in just before Kim could punch the ball away. Nolito’s second put Spain 5-0 up after 54 minutes.
South Korea midfielder Ju Se-jong sent a deflected shot in the 83rd past debutant goalkeeper Sergio Rico, who replaced Casillas in the second half, before Morata netted again in the final minutes.
The game was played in Austria, where both teams were having a training camp.
Spain plays Georgia in Getafe on Tuesday in its final friendly before travelling to the tournament in France, where it is in Group D with Czech Republic, Turkey and Croatia.
Following its first match since March, South Korea has another friendly against a Euro 2016 contender coming up, taking on Czech Republic in Prague on Sunday.
