Find Solution To Security Problems In Nigeria – Fasoranti, Falae tell FG

Leader of pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti and other leaders from different parts of the country at the weekend asked the Federal Government to find solution to the menace of Fulani herdsmen ravaging the country.
Fasoranti said the people of the southwest geo-political zone were becoming restless as a result of the killing of the people and destruction of farmlands by the Fulani herdsmen.

Speaking at an event organised by Afenifere and the Ondo State government to mark the 90th birthday of Pa Fasoranti in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the leader of the group raised fears that people may result to self help if the government does not come to their aid on time.
The 90-year-old Afenifere leader said: “We cannot continue to live like slaves in our own country. I am afraid people might result to self help if the government does not liberate them from the yoke of the Fulani herdsmen.”
Similarly, Chief Ayo Adebanjo said Yoruba people must come together to repel attacks on their farmlands and the killing of innocent people by the “killers masquerading as herdsmen”.
Adebanjo threw his weight behind Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti, who has banned nomadic cattle rearing in his state and arming the local hunters against the herdsmen.
Also, Chief Olu Falae and former Minister of Communication, Chief Cornelius Adebayo said the 2014 National Conference report had tackled all the problems caused by the Fulani herdsmen and the blowing up of oil and gas pipelines by the Niger Delta Avengers.

N4bn Campaign Funds: Falae Firm’s Account Frozen, Fani-Kayode Detained

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has frozen the bank account of a company belonging to a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, The PUNCH has learnt.

It was gathered that the account with the United Bank for Africa titled Marecco Nigeria Limited with number 1000627022, was frozen as part of investigations into the N4bn disbursed by the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election.

This is just as the EFCC detained a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, on Monday for receiving N840m from the campaign funds. The ex-minister, who arrived at the EFCC headquarters at 9.45am was still being quizzed as of 8.40pm.

Both Falae and Fani-Kayode were accused of receiving N940m from the Director of Finance of the campaign organisation, Senator Nenadi Usman, during the build-up to the election.

The money was said to have emanated from the account of the National Security Adviser which is domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria.

While Falae, who was the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, collected N100m on behalf of his party, Fani-Kayode received N840m as the spokesman for the campaign organisation.

A former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, who played an advisory role in the PDP presidential campaign, was said to have given instructions that N100m should be paid to Falae.

However, both Fani-Kayode and Falae have said they never knew that the money received was government’s.

Falae had said, “It is true that N100m was given to my party to endorse and work for Jonathan candidacy in the 2015 presidential election. We used the money for that purpose and we effectively campaigned for the PDP since we did not have a presidential candidate in the election. The money was not for me.

“Thank God, I’m a retired civil servant. I have all the documents to prove all that transpired between the two parties. With all the money the PDP has and having spent 16 years in power, how would I have known that the money was from the arms deal? No reference was made to the arms deal. So, they should not bring me into the arms issue.”

Fani-Kayode had also told our correspondent that the PDP leadership gave him the impression that the money was sourced from private individuals.

He said, “I served as the director of publicity of the Jonathan campaign organisation and I was told to set up an account for the directorate, which I did. I never received money from the CBN but like all the other directors, we received money from the director of finance.

“I was assured that the funds were not public funds but were sourced from private individuals. I never knowingly spent government money all through. The money was spent specifically on the campaigns. The accounts were audited and we were commended by the President.”

Meanwhile, the EFCC has detained Fani-Kayode as investigation continues.

Sources at the EFCC told our correspondent that the sole aim of the investigation was to recover the funds.

Usman, who served as the director of finance of the campaign organisation, had returned some funds to the Federal Government and also forfeited two properties in Abuja.

A reliable source at the EFCC said, “Nenadi Usman cooperated with us and returned funds. Fani-Kayode must also do the same. We need our money back.”

Others who received parts of the N4bn include: The Goodluck Support Group headed by Prof. Rufai Alkali (N320m) while N340m was jointly received by a former Governor of Imo State, Achike Udenwa; and a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Viola Onwuliri.

I Have Nothing To Do With Dasuki, Fani-Kayode – Falae

Former National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Chief Olu Falae said he has nothing to do with the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) and Jonathan campaign Director, Femi Fani-Kayode.

He was reacting to speculations that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was set to invite him and others for questioning over allegations that they illegally received government funds through the last presidential campaign.

Chief Falae said he had never been invited by the EFCC or any anti-graft commission, adding that his company too had never been touched by the anti-graft commission.

He said, “I have said it in several interviews that both myself and my party have nothing whatsoever to do with Dasuki or Jonathan campaign Director or anybody that it was Tony Anenih as Chairman Board of Trustee of the PDP who approached SDP, my party, through me that we should support their candidate. I also said that we gave them some conditions which he accepted.”

If eventually invited, the former Minister for Finance said he would honor the invitation as he said he had no skeleton in his cupboard.

“I will honour the invitation if I am invited, but I have not invited by anybody because they know I have nothing to explain, I have explained everything. I know I didn’t do anything that is illegal, they just want to use that to embarrass me.”

Herdsmen Attacks: I’ll Rely On God, Says Falae

Former Secretary to the Federal Government and Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Chief Olu Falae, has said he would rely on God for protection following repeated attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen on his farm in Akure, Ondo State.

In a brief chat with one of our correspondents on Saturday, Falae stated that he did not know why the herdsmen attacked his farm again.

It was reported on Friday that the herdsmen attacked the farm of the SDP chieftain and killed a security guard said to be a member of the Oodua Peoples Congress.

The guard, Ayodele Ige, was identified as Coordinator of the OPC in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The elder statesman was said to have engaged the services of the OPC to guard the farm.

“I do not know what is happening. It’s worrisome. May God deliver us,” he said in a telephone conversation with our correspondent.

When asked if he would seek the assistance of the police or would like to make a statement on the issue, Falae stated, “I am not going to say anything. I will just rely on God (for protection).”

Falae was abducted in the farm by some herdsmen in September last year and was released three days later after payment of ransom.

He was made to trek for 15 kilometres before he was picked up by the police in Owo, several kilometres away from Akure.

Meanwhile, the Yoruba socio-cultural group, OPC has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and security agencies to check the killings and attacks by Fulani herdsmen across the country.

The OPC warned that people may resort to self-defence if the Federal Government fails to protect them from attacks by Fulani herdsmen.

The Coordinator, OPC, Ondo State, Mr. Pius Ogunsanya, in a statement on Saturday, berated security agencies for not checking the continued killings of people by herdsmen across the country.

“And let the President (Muhammadu Buhari) know that the killings in Agatuland (in Benue State) and other parts of the country cannot continue forever. It is only a matter of time before the people stand up to defend themselves,” he added.

He stated that Ige’s murder would not be allowed to be swept under the carpet “like several other innocent people killed across the country by Fulani herdsmen.”

Ogunsanya added, “The killing of one our members by Fulani herdsmen in Chief Olu Falae’s farm in the outskirt of Akure, Ondo State, has once again brought to the fore the danger posed by the herdsmen to their peace-loving host communities.

“It is strange that the security agencies have found it difficult to put an end to these wicked acts by Fulani herdsmen despite repeated cases of killings and arson against them from all over the country. The story is the same from Enugu to Edo, Akokoland to Oke-Ogun and other parts of the country.”

Fulani Herdsmen Invade Falae’s Farm, Kill Guard

Again suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded the farm of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae, killing one of the guards in his farm in Ilado in Akure North local Government Area of Ondo State. A source said the guard was one of his Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) security guard hired by the elderstateman to help secure his farm after the previous attacks in the farm.

The source said the herdsmen stormed the farm located at Ilado and kidnapped the security guard. The remains of the security guard was later discovered few days ago inside a pool of water which is few kilometres to the farm. It was gathered that the herdsmen invaded the farm last weekend and they were resisted by the security guards engaged by the politician following incessant invasion of the farm.

The herdsmen according to sources retreated only to resurface again and reportedly kidnapped one of the security guards on the farm. Saturday Telegraph learnt that the matter was reported at the state police command and a search party was organised following which his corpse was discovered many day later.

The state police command which had sent out invitation for a press briefing to journalists in the state yesterday abruptly cancelled it. The state Commissioner of Police, Hilda Harrison, did not give any reason for the cancellation of the media briefing. But sources at the state Police Command said that the assignment may have been halted because the Commissioner has no approval from the Inspector General of Police.
