Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti State, has crticised Ali Modu Sheriff, factional leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, over his visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Sheriff held a closed door meeting with Obasanjo at his hilltop mansion in Abeokuta on Saturday, The Cable reports.

He later told journalists that he decided to consult the former party leader over the crisis in the PDP.

But Fayose described the visit as the “coming together of PDP enemies”, alleging that both men collaborated to destroy the All Nigerians Peoples Party.

“The meeting was a coming together of collaborators in the total annihilation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” Fayose said in a statement issued on his behalf by Lere Olayinka, his media aide.

“No genuine lover of the PDP will go to the house of a man who openly destroyed his membership card and worked assiduously to ensure the party’s failure in the 2015 presidential election, to seek advice on how the way forward for the PDP.

“Sheriff can as well begin to sleep in Obasanjo’s house, it is good riddance to bad rubbish.

“Since Obasanjo is no longer a member of the PDP and he has consistently maintained that he can never return to the PDP, only those in the same league with him can go about visiting him,” he said.

He alleged that despite the fact that “no one benefited from the party more than Obasanjo”, the elder statesman still worked against his former party.

Fayose asked Nigerians to beware of Obasanjo, saying; “The result of Obasanjo’s imposition of President Muhammadu Buhari on the country is the hunger and sufferings that Nigerians are facing now.”

Embattled Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to publish his personal accounts it has frozen .He also claims that he has N382 million in his two bank accounts

According to a statement yesterday by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi,the governor said this while featuring on an interview programme on a radio station, Fresh FM.He said
“The EFCC is only engaged i‎n mind game. They think they can wear me out, that is not possible as God is on my side because I stand for the truth. EFCC has not told Nigerians how money was wired to me.‎ They must be responsible to do investigation that would not be a media issue. What the EFCC and their APC collaborators are trying to do is to set the people of the state against me and they have failed.

“In my two accounts that they have frozen, I have N300 million in the fixed deposit one and N82 million in the other. Both accounts and my properties were duly declared in my Asset Declaration Form. They are treading the same 2006 path and they will fail woefully by the grace of God. What they did in 2006, the Supreme Court declared it illegal and I came back to office exactly eight years after. It means one of us lied and was mischievous,” he said.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha, has sued Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State for claiming that she was involved in the Halliburton corruption scandal, Premuim Times reports.

Mr. Fayose had in June said Mrs. Buhari was the “Aisha Buhari” named in a U.S. court document, alleged to have been involved in a bribery case involving a convicted former U.S. lawmaker, Williams Jefferson.

The governor, in what appeared to be an error, referred to the scandal as the Halliburton corruption case. The Halliburton case is different from the Williams Jefferson scandal.
But Mr. Fayose insisted he was right despite Mrs. Buhari’s denial and threat of legal action,
The court summons, dated July 20, 2016, was exclusively made available to PREMIUM TIMES.
As governor, Mr. Fayose has constitutional immunity against criminal prosecution.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has seized six choice properties allegedly acquired by Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State with stolen public funds.
The duplexes, estimated at N1.350billion include four in Lagos and two in Abuja.

According to The Nation,they were allegedly acquired for him by his associate, Abiodun Agbele and sister. Mrs. Moji Ladeji.

A furious Mrs. Ladeji has approached the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti laying claim to one of the Abuja duplexes.

EFCC, according to impeccable sources, believe that the properties were bought with public funds including the N1.219billion slush fund from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) handed over to Fayose by former Minister of Defence, Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro, and bribe money from contractors.
Part of the funds came from the N4.745billion which was paid into Obanikoro’s company, Sylva Mcnamara by ONSA for the 2014 Ekiti governorship poll.

Operatives of the anti-graft commission have located and marked the duplexes as follows: 44, Osun Crescent and 32, Yedseram Street in Maitama, Abuja; and houses 3, 4, 6, and 9 in Plot 100, Tiamiyu Savage Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
EFCC sources said the funds were wired to pay for the duplexes.

While the duplex on Osun Crescent was allegedly bought for N200million from Skye Bank Plc, the one located in Yedseram Street in Abuja was purchased for N270million from a businessman, Rabi Kundili.

All the houses in Lagos were paid for by Abiodun Agbele, the detained associate of the governor who is currently under investigation.
Agbele allegedly paid over N880 million for the Lagos properties.
Sources said the duplexes were “acquired within 180 days in office by Fayose.”

“We have discovered that he paid for the houses through his associate’s company, De-Privateer Limited of Agbele.

A bullion van driver has confessed to conveying the N1.219bn, which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission alleged was delivered to the Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, in the build-up to the June 2014 governorship election in the state, which Fayose won.

Fayose is being investigated by the EFCC for allegedly receiving the N1.219bn through the Office of the National Security Adviser for his campaign in 2014, an amount said to be part of the N4.7bn allegedly diverted from the ONSA under Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).

EFCC investigations had revealed that the N4.7bn was paid into a bank account of Sylvan McNamara, a company in which the sons of a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, are said to be directors.

About N1.219bn was allegedly flown to Akure on a private plane during the build-up to the Ekiti State governorship election.

Fayose was alleged to have received the N1.219bn through his bosom friend, Abiodun Agbele.

The bullion van driver, Mr. Olaoluwa Omotoso, reportedly drove the bullion van to the Akure airport tarmac on June 17, 2014, to transport the N1.219bn allegedly flown from Lagos by Obanikoro.

Omotoso told EFCC detectives that he made two separate trips to the airport because of the large volume of cash.

The driver told the anti-graft agency that part of the money was taken to a bank in Alagbaka, Akure, on the instruction of Fayose’s friend, Agbele, while the remaining money was taken to Spotless Hotel, Ado Ekiti, which is owned by Fayose and his wife, Feyisetan.

A detective in the commission, who spoke to our correspondent on Thursday, said, “Omotoso explained that on June 17, 2014, he was given a directive to go to the Akure airport to convey some funds. He said he went to the airport twice to move the money. He said some of the money was taken to a bank while he, along with Agbele, moved the remaining cash to Spotless Hotel, Ado Ekiti.

“He said the money was moved in three vehicles, including one bullion van and two Toyota Hilux vans. The two Toyota Hilux vans had some soldiers inside for security while Agbele was with him in the Hilux van.

“He said he did not know exactly how much was conveyed. He explained that Agbele held the keys to the vault in the bullion van. On getting to Spotless Hotel at night, they offloaded the cash and Agbele entered the vehicle to search and ensure that no money was left behind. Agbele then returned the keys and Omotoso drove off.”

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Mr. Peter Amangbo, has denied that the bank sponsored the governorship campaign of Fayose in 2014, contrary to the governor’s claim.

Amangbo told the EFCC that the bank had only one branch in Ekiti State, wondering why the bank would invest in Fayose when the state government had no account with the bank.

Fayose had claimed that his campaign was funded by the bank and a few private individuals.

The bank MD said at no time did he hold a meeting with Fayose and his friend, Agbele.

A source at the EFCC stated that Amangbo said at no time did he meet with Abiodun Agbele or any representative of Fayose. He said the allegation that the bank funded the Ekiti State governorship election was false.

“He further stated that at no time did Fayose and the chairman of the bank, Mr. Jim Ovia, and himself hold a meeting.

“He said the bank, as a matter of policy, did not sponsor political groups or elections.”

EKITI State Governor Ayo Fayose has reacted to a June 22nd letter by counsel to Mrs. Buhari, Mary Ekpere & Co, demanding a retraction of the governor’s statement that her client (Mrs. Buhari) was involved in the Halliburton scandal.
The legal firm threatened a legal action, if the retraction was not made within five days.
In response, he has advised wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, to wait till end of his tenure on October 16, 2018, to sue him for defamation.
Fayose, in a letter by his counsel, Mike Ozekhome, a copy of which was made available to reporters in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, said

The letter reads: “Our client has referred to us your letter of June 22, 2016, on the alleged defamation of the character of your client, the wife of Muhammadu Buhari, with firm instructions to reply to and reject same.
“Our client states and reaffirms that the statement he made as regards the involvement of Mrs. Aisha Buhari, in the Halliburton scandal, is correct and justified in law; having regards to a court judgment convicting Mr. William Jefferson for bribery in the Halliburton case.
“Therein, the name of the President’s wife featured conspicuously. On Page 22 of the judgment delivered by the United States District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division, USA, in Criminal No 1: 07CR209, Mr. William Jefferson was sentenced at 9 am on November 13, 2009, by Mark D, Lytle. Your client, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, was mentioned in the judgment. The judge referred to exhibits 36-87 in the following words, for clarification;
“See also Government Exhibits 36-87 (6/26/02 $170,000 wire transfer from account in Nigeria in the name of Aisha Buhari to an account in the name of The ANJ Group, LLC, identifying “William Jefferson” as beneficiary)… Given the age of the defendant, the severity of the sentence calculated by the Probation Office, the defendant’s frequent travel overseas and unexplained wire transfers from overseas locations to financial accounts used by the defendant, the defendant cannot rebut the presumption at sentencing that he is a risk of flight.”
“Williams Jefferson is serving a jail term in the USA and to the best of our client’s knowledge, this judgment has not been challenged or set aside by any appellate court of law anywhere in the world.
“The statement of our client, is therefore correct and justified, same having been factually premised on an existing court judgment above referred to.”
On the immunity enjoyed by Fayose against civil and criminal proceedings, the senior advocate said: “Your attention is also drawn to Section 308 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as altered, on the immunity enjoyed by our client from civil or criminal proceedings for the period that he occupies the office of the governor of Ekiti State.
“You may, therefore, advise your client to wait until after October 16, 2018, when our client’s tenure expires. When that happens, we shall join issues with your client in a competent court of law, in the event that your client does not have a change of heart.”

People’s Democratic Party leader, Fayose has revealed his religious side which is unknown to the general public.

Ayo Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, says he is an avid reader of the Bible — at night when all his visitors have left him alone.

In an interview with Vanguard, Fayose said he is far from perfect even though his belief in God is unshakable.

Fayose, a controversial personality, also expressed his pride in having a “praying mother and a giant in Christ as wife”.

“I cannot tell you that I am a perfect man, but I believe in God. I am one man that counts my blessings; name them one by one and thank God for what he has done in my life,” he said.

“When everybody leaves in the night, I read the Bible and look for words that will carry me the next hour. I had the privilege of being raised in a Christian home and my understanding of the Bible is deep. And as God will have it I have a praying mother and a giant in Christas wife.”

The governor further explained the relevance of his wife, Feyisetan, in the decision he makes and the battles he fights.

He said his wife had already informed him that he would prevail in the investigation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into the source of funding for his election.

“If my wife tells me that this will happen, it will happen. If she tells me not to fight any battle, I don’t, and if she tells to go on, I do,” he said.

“She told me that nothing would come out of the present battle they are waging against me, and I strongly believe that because it is all about envy…”

A video has allegedly given fresh insights into how a former Minister of Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro allegedly loaded a chartered aircraft with N1, 299, 490b for transfer to Governor Ayodele Fayose through an associate, Abiodun Agbele.

According to the Nation, the cash was transferred through HS125-800 5N-BMT belonging to Gyro Air Limited.The first flight was filled with N724.5million cash to the extent that there was no seat for any crew member or the ex-Minister.
It was during the second flight with N494.990m that Obanikoro, his Aide-de-Camp, Lieutenant Colonel A.O Adewale, and crew member joined the trip to Akure Airport.

Records indicated yesterday that for each of the trip, Obanikoro paid $12,500 making a total of $25,000.
The EFCC has retrieved the footage details of Obanikoro’s movement at the airport and the flight schedule of the aircraft.

According to fresh evidence obtained by the EFCC, the ex-Minister had defied security gate at the airport in Lagos to move a bullion van to the apron of the chartered wing to off-load the cash.
Although the security men at the airport resisted the use of the security gate, the ex-Minister ordered soldiers to break all barriers for the bullion van to get to the apron.
A reliable source, who spoke in confidence, said:

“Contrary to his attacks on EFCC, we have retrieved the footage and details of how he ordered soldiers to break the barriers at the reserved security gate at Lagos Airport for a bullion van to go to the apron of the chartered service wing.
“He defied security men at the airport and refused to subject the bullion van to any screening contrary to aviation rules. In fact, apart from financial crimes, the ex-Minister and his accomplices have outstanding allegations against them for violating aviation safety rules or regulations.
“The aircraft made two shuttles to Akure Airport on June 17, 2014. Our investigation revealed that during the first flight, about N724.5million was offloaded from the bullion into the aircraft. The cash occupied all the space to the extent that there was nowhere to sit by the crew and the ex-Minister.
“But when the balance of N494.990m was loaded into the aircraft for the second trip, Obanikoro, his ADC, one highly-placed person from the South-West, and the crew were able to make the trip.
“Let him continue to make noise in the United States instead of coming home to clear his name. We have interacted with the aviation staff on ground on the said date. We have identified the owner of the aircraft to be a member of the sacked management of Skye Bank Plc.”Meanwhile, there were indications yesterday that the ex-Minister paid $25,000 for the two flights to Akure at $12,500 each.
Another source confirmed that the aircraft belonged a member of the sacked management of Skye Bank Plc.

“We have evidence of the payment of $25,000 to Gyro Air Limited for the two flights to Akure. And Zenith Bank confirmed how Fayose’s associate, Agbele, brought the cash into its branch in Akure to keep as sundry funds.”Responding to a question, the source said: “From our findings, the Minister and Fayose fought over N80million missing from the total cash.

“They had a shouting match until reasons prevailed between the two politicians on the whereabouts of the N80million.”An Investigating Officer of the EFCC, Tosin Owobo during the week opened up at the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti on how the N1, 299,490,000.00 was wired into Governor Ayodele Fayose’s accounts by one of his associates, Abiodun Agbele.
Owobo, who swore to an affidavit, said:

“That the total sum of N 1, 219,490,000 (One billion, two hundred and nineteen million, four hundred and ninety thousand naira) was conveyed to Akure Airport by Senator Obanikoro through a chartered aircraft with Registration No: HS125-800 5N-BMT belonging to Gyro Air Limited.”
“That on the 17th day of June, 2014, Mr. Alade Oluseye in the company of one Abiodun Agbele a front of the Applicant (Fayose), went to the Akure Airport wherein they took cash delivery of the sum of N724,500,000.00 from Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and his acclaimed Aide-de-Camp Lieutenant Colonel A.O Adewale.
“That on the 18th day of June, 2014, another sum of N494, 990,000 was also delivered to Mr. Alade Oluseye by the said Minister in the same manner.
“ That the total sum of N 1, 219,490,000 (One billion, two hundred and nineteen million, four hundred and ninety thousand naira) was conveyed to Akure Airport by Senator Obanikoro through a chartered aircraft with Registration No: HS125-800 5N-BMT belonging to Gyro Air Limited.”

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana has declared that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) can investigate and prosecute the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, even as a sitting governor.The human rights lawyer in a statement on Wednesday said Fayose could not rely on section 308 of the 1999 Constitution to escape criminal act.

He said the immunity clause did not come to play in criminal investigation of a sitting governor or a sitting president.
Falana added that in view of the fact that the effect of section 308 of the 1999 Constitution had been watered down, Fayose could not invoke the immunity clause to shield himself from investigation.”

“While not challenging the allegation by the EFCC that the sum of N1.3 billion has been traced to his personal account, Mr. Fayose has attempted to hide under the immunity clause to shield himself from investigation. Contrary to the governor’s claim he does not enjoy immunity from investigation with respect to his criminal involvement in treasonable conduct and corrupt practices.
“It is trite law that all the public officers protected by Section 308 of the Constitution can be investigated for corruption and other criminal offences.
“If he is indicted, Fayose ought to be prosecuted by the EFCC since the immunity of a governor is put in abeyance when the legitimacy of his election is in dispute. In his desperate bid to divert public attention from the ongoing investigation of the criminal diversion of public funds, Fayose has attempted to link me with his indictment by the Nigerian Army and the EFCC.
“Notwithstanding that the allegation is completely baseless, I fully support the investigations. I do not need to instigate the anti-graft agencies to enquire into the activities of a serial treasury looter.
“Having admitted his involvement in the coup which occurred in Ekiti State which culminated in his emergence as the Ekiti State governor, Fayose ought to be prosecuted for treason which arose from the electoral malfeasance,” he said.Falana added that “the senior lawyers who have questioned the freezing of Mr. Fayose’s account on the ground that the EFCC did not obtain a court order have not read section 28 of the EFCC Act which provides that

“where a person is arrested for an offence under this Act, the Commission shall immediately trace and attach all the assets and properties of the person acquired as a result of such economic or financial crime and shall thereafter cause to be obtained an interim attachment order from the Court”. The law permits the EFCC to freeze an account or attach a property of a criminal suspect and proceed thereafter to obtain an ex parte order from the appropriate court.
“I am not unaware that by the strict interpretation of section 308 of the Constitution no court process can be issued or served on a governor. But because immunity cannot be pleaded or invoked to cover electoral fraud, elected governors are served with court processes and dragged to court to respond to allegations of electoral malpractice.
“However, in order to give effect and validity to the equality of the rights of all contestants in presidential or governorship elections, it has been held by the Supreme Court that immunity clause cannot be invoked in election petitions. Otherwise, public officers covered by the immunity clause may take advantage of their positions to rig elections and thereby sabotage the democratic process.”Falana cited different judicial precedents that justified the criminal investigation and prosecution of a sitting governor or a sitting president in connection to electoral malpractice, noting that immunity clause did not apply.

The Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Buruji Kashamu has urged Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose “to stop the needless mudslinging against the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari and face the allegations against him”.xxxIn a statement he issued in Abuja today, Kashamu likened Fayose’s attempt to link Mrs Buhari with the Halliburton scandal as a “needless distraction and an amateurish shadow-boxing. His action could be taken for a drowning man clutching at a straw”.

The statement reads in part, “It is interesting that Mr. Fayose is talking about the rule of law and the need to do things within the ambit of the law. I never knew that he has ever heard of the concept of the Rule of Law. When he trampled on other people’s rights in a bid to abrogate their tenure in office where was the Rule of Law? Now he is crying out because he is afraid he might have to get a taste of his own medicine because a man must certainly reap whatever he sows.

“Mr. Fayose is talking about the fact that he enjoys immunity under the law. If I may ask: can a governor who disobeys the law with reckless abandon seek protection under the law? You cannot say because immunity covers you, you should not be investigated if you are suspected to have benefitted from the funds that were meant to buy arms for the protection of Nigerians. I think it is high time that we, as a people and government, address the issue of people committing crimes and hiding under the immunity clause.”

The statement further added, “Fayose must stop chasing shadows and address the allegations against him. It is preposterous that he suddenly remembered that someone was involved in the Halliburton scandal at exactly the same time that he is being investigated over the funds he allegedly collected from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

“The questions are: Was he a beneficiary of the ONSA funds? Is it true that over N300million was frozen in three accounts traced to him? Were suspicious cash deposits made into the accounts in 2014, in clear violation of the Money Laundering Act and other enabling laws?

“It is said that you can fool some people all of the time but you cannot fool all the people all of the time. Nigerians can now see that what is playing out is a confirmation of my earlier position that the loudest among us are not necessarily the most pious. If he is being asked questions about his campaign funds, he should be bold enough to give explanations without necessarily casting aspersion on anyone. He should allow necessary investigations to go on unimpeded.

That will not only help to prove his innocence or otherwise but could possibly boost his rating. He could even choose to waive his immunity to aid the investigation if he does not have anything to hide. Immunity does not preclude any public officer even a governor from explaining how he funded his election campaign or the source (s) of deposits made into his account (s).

“The reality that Mr. Fayose must come to terms with is that the allegations against him are too grave to be sidelined for a seemingly spurious allegation against the wife of the president. Months of workers’ salaries are yet to be paid in Ekiti State; development partners have abandoned state, just as families are languishing as a result of his ill-advised political scheming.

“This current campaign of calumny and juvenile tantrums cannot sweep the issue of corruption under the carpet; neither can it kick enough dirt to make any right-thinking Nigerian to shut his or her eyes to the truth. This is not about party affiliation or dog eating dog. It is about the plundering of our commonwealth and there should be no sacred cows in the fight against corruption. This is a fight that all patriotic Nigerians should lend their weight without any primordial sentiments or prejudice.”

Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, set Twitter on fire with her comment that the Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose is a ‘mad dog that isn’t chained’.

The tweet in her verified account @ABuhari had gotten hundreds of retweets but it was later deleted, following adverse comments that she should not have descended to Fayose’s level with her choice of words.

“Enough is Enough Fayose. A mad dog that isn’t chained. I refuse to keep quiet,” the President’s wife posted on her verified Twitter handle.

“If Buhari is 73 years old, I Aisha am 45 years old. I have more than enough energy to face you”.

The two tweets have now disappeared from her account.

Aisha had rebuked Fayose for linking her with Halliburton scandal and a former US House of Reps member, William Jefferson.

It all started after the EFCC blocked Fayose’s private account at Zenith Bank.

In an off-target reaction, Fayose alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari and his family members are not saints after all.

” Even the President cannot claim to be an angel. The estate he built in Abuja is known to us. His wife was indicted over the Halliburton Scandal. When that American, Jefferson, was being sentenced, the President’s wife was mentioned as having wired $170,000 to Jefferson. Her name was on page 25 of the sentencing of Jefferson. We can serialize the judgment for people to see and read,” Fayose’s press secretary, Idowu Adelusi said.

In an earlier reaction, Nigeria’s Presidency dismissed as “laughable’’ the attempt by Gov. Ayo Fayose of Ekiti to link President Buhari’s wife, Aisha, to US Congressman William Jefferson’s bribery scandal for which the American lawmaker was convicted in 2009.

Malam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Media and Publicity, said this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said that ordinarily the presidency would have ignored Fayose because “he is a man childishly obsessed with the desire to grab the headlines and insulting people at will because of his incurably boorish instincts.’’

He said that the presidency chose to respond on this occasion for the sake of innocent Nigerians who might be misled by Fayose’s “shameless and blatant distortion of facts.’’

Shehu said, “Ignoring Fayose carries the risk of giving traction and credibility to outright and brazen falsehoods inconsistent with the status of anybody that calls himself a governor or leader.’’

The SSA explained that Aisha had no direct, indirect or the remotest connection with William Jefferson’s corruption scandal in the United States.

He challenged Fayose to tell Nigerians “if the so-called Aisha whose pictures he proudly, but ignorantly shared, was the same Aisha married to President Muhammadu Buhari.’’

He also challenged Fayose to tell Nigerians “if the Aisha of his idle imagination had any relationship by blood or any relationship in whatever form with the President Buhari’s wife.’’

Shehu further challenged Fayose to produce evidence from the records of investigation and subsequent trial of Jefferson to prove that Buhari’s wife was in anyway linked to the scandal.

He said, “common names alone are not enough to automatically link innocent people to crimes or scandals, especially in an era of identity thieves.’’

The SSA called on Fayose to show proof when and where Aisha Buhari was invited for interrogation in connection with William Jefferson’s bribery scandal, let alone indicted for a crime locally or abroad.

He said that free speech does not entitle Fayose to falsely accuse innocent people of crimes they knew nothing about.

He warned that Aisha Buhari was entitled to protect her reputation from being recklessly maligned, adding that “political opposition is not a licence to attack people’s reputation brazenly without legal consequences.’’

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has reacted to the claim that Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State cannot be investigated because of immunity currently being enjoyed by him.

The commission said that the immunity being enjoyed by any governor does not prevent the commission from investigating suspicious movements of money into his accounts.

The Spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren told Vanguard that the anti-graft agency has the right to investigate any governor whose account is being used to move funds.

Oluwasegun Fayose, the Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose’s eldest brother , has condemned the latter over his 'aggressive method of governance.

The Ekiti State workers have reacted to Governor Ayodele Fayose embarking on a solidarity strike,saying “what we want is our money to alleviate our poverty”.

Fayose said it has always been his wish to respond to payment swiftly, but for dwindling revenue to the state, adding that “now that I share from your pains, I have also placed myself on indefinite strike insolidarity with you and I shall be waiting here for you until you call off”.‎

The Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in the State, Com. Odunayo Adesoye, told newsmen in Ado Ekiti, stated that the level of poverty among the civil servants had become unbearable to the extent that they had become beggars.He said

“We appreciate the governor for sharing from our pains and anguish.But the workers will appreciate and commend him the more if he can pay at least two or three months salaries out of five months owed.
“Our situation has gone beyond the governor declaring mere solidarity strike. We need more of actions now than talks because our situation is gradually becoming hopeless.Some of us have the intention of going to work, but no money to pay for transport fare. Some of us could not take two square meal a day.
Some could not cook soup with ordinary fish, so our situation has gone beyond what anyone could trivialize.
“But I want to say that we are resolute to fight on, because it is an issue that borders on our welfare, careers and prosperity.
“We are hearing that the federal government want to give grants to states, so if Mr Governor could pay three months now, it will be easy to use the grant to pay the remaining two months and still help in paying for the subsequent months.
“We appeal to the workers to be law abiding. We want them to be civil‎ even in the face of provocation. By the grace of God, we shall all rejoice in the end”, he said.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to dialogue with the Niger Delta Militants, especially the Niger Delta Avengers so as to end hostilities in the oil rich region.

This, he said, will also save Nigeria’s economy from imminent collapse.

Fayose said the president’s failure to attend the flag-off of the clean-up Ogoni project today, because of the threat from the Niger Delta militants was a demonstration that the President had surrendered to the superior powers of the militants.

Fayose, according to a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said it was shameful and embarrassing that a retired military general could succumb to threat from militants despite what he told Nigerians that he was going to lead from the fronts.

The governor, who wondered why the president was not always interested in visiting states in the country as against his penchant for overseas trips, added that it was time that the President stopped acting like a foreign president.

Stating that the president’s approach to civil unrests of any kind under the government was causing more security problems in the country, he added that, “the President cannot afford to continue to talk tough on issues that dialogue can resolve.”

“Now that the president has surrendered to the threat and intimidation of the Niger Delta Avengers, he should emulate late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua by having a roundtable talks with the Niger Delta militants.

“By not going to Ogoni today, because of threat from the NDA, our president has shown that he is actually afraid of the militants and the best thing to do in a situation like this is to dialogue with the militants so as to save Nigeria economy from imminent collapse.

“It also shows that the president’s ability to secure Nigeria and its people is doubtful, because if the president could succumb to threat from militants and abandon his official function for his deputy, ordinary Nigerians should seek help elsewhere.

“The president should therefore save Nigeria the agony of military misadventure in the Niger Delta by holding dialogue with the militants with a view to resolving their grievances.”

Fayose also reiterated that “the Niger Delta region as at today is still the golden goose laying the golden egg on which all other regions are surviving.

“Diversification as good as it sounds, takes time. We need to appreciate these regions as our only source of income,” he added.
