Woman burnt as a baby reunites with nurse who cared for her 38 years later


Amanda Scarpinati, who suffered severe burns as an infant finally got a chance to thank the hospital nurse who cared for her, thanks to a social media posting that revealed the identity of the nurse in 38-year-old photos.

38-year-old Scarpinati from Athens, says she has always treasured photos of her as a baby in a young nurse's arms. The pictures were published in Albany Medical Center's 1977 annual report without names.

Protest for the repeal of the antigay law held in London yesterday


Some gays and lesbians today staged a protest outside the Nigerian House in London where they demanded that President Buhari repeal the antigay law which was signed into law by his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan in 2014. Governor Ibikunle Amosun, yesterday, sent a list containing names of new commissioners-nominee to Ogun State House of Assembly, for approval.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi who read the letter at the plenary, told the members that the governor has written to seek their support for the confirmation of the nominees.

Ministerial List: Buhari only sent 21 names, to send others before Tuesday


At last, Senate President Bukola Saraki Wednesday received the Ministerial list from President Muhammadu Buhari, just as the names would be forwarded in batches.

A source told Vanguard that instead of thirty – six names, President Buhari sent twenty – one names as Ministerial nominees to the Senate President, with plans to send others very early on Tuesday before plenary session.

Two persons, Festus Owie, 20, and Blessing Ebimor, 12, have been arraigned before an Egor Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly raping and assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

The defendants, who were arraigned on a three-count charge of defilement, rape and assault, were alleged to have committed the offense on October 26, 2014.

Buhari ‘ll be distracted, overworked as Petroleum Minister —NACCIMA


The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA, yesterday, faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision not to appoint a Minister of Petroleum, saying the President would be distracted and overload himself with excess workload.
