The All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), has disclosed what the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is plotting for the March 28 Presidential elections.
Buhari alleged that the PDP has trained thugs, who they will distribute fake police uniforms to on elections day to intimidate the electorate, Leadership reports.
According to Buhari, who spoke with Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), they received the information from some states.
“Information we received from some states revealed that the PDP has planned to arm fake security agents to cause chaos in some polling units so that the election will be cancelled.
“Besides other general issues, the key factor for the success of the election will largely depend on how the security agencies are able to play their roles,” the APC presidential candidate said.
He therefore called on the European Union (EU) election observers to save the country’s democracy and get involved in the matter.
Reacting to this allegation, a member of the Jonathan’s re-election campaign committee, Sani Bello Gamawa, stated that it lacks merit, adding that “Nigerians don’t need to listen to this sort of allegation because President Jonathan hates violence.”
Note that the Lagos High Court had banned the Nigerian government from disposing soldiers to voting stations during the coming elections.
The APC in Kaduna state had earlier raised an alarm over plans by the PDP to stir up violence so that elections will be held under curfew in the state.
