When the Presidential Candidate of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Martin Onovo, declared himself as Nigeria’s “President-in-waiting”, some probably felt he was clamoring media attention as his name doesn’t ring a bell to many Nigerians.
However, the presidential candidate of Action Alliance (AA) in the last general elections, is one of the most brilliant professionals in Nigeria and his outstanding performance at the just concluded National Electoral Debate Group (NEDG) presidential debate, caught the attention of many Nigerians.

Born in 1969 in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, Chief Martin Onovo is the presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party (NCP) in the upcoming March 28 elections. He is the head of movement for the Movement for Fundamental Change and many of his followers have described him as a simple, calm and calculative man. To them, he is also one of the very few whose opinion is worth gold in the country.
With the 2015 elections just around the corner, Chief Onovo will be banking on his exceptional performance at the presidential debate to increase his chances of winning when Nigerians march to the polls come March 28.
Excerpts from a recent interview granted by Chief Onovo to newsmen, solidifies the fact that optimism is written all over him, heading to the election.
He said: “We will win the election because, we are the oldest party in Nigeria today and the people know our history of integrity and patriotism. Voters have also recognized and acknowledged our moral and intellectual superiority over other candidates.
“It is very clear that the National Conscience Party (NCP) has fielded the very best candidates for most positions. We will win, also because, we have a better Vision than the other candidates, we are stronger and below the regular retirement age we are more experienced professionally and we are more nationally acceptable.
A survey carried out on Twitter, shows that quite a large number of people were stunned at the overwhelming performance of Chief Martin Onovo at the NEDG presidential debate. However, the question that triggers attention will be, Did Martin Onovo do just enough at the debate to earn him the ticket to Aso Rock? Time will certainly tell!
