Despite the 2015 general election being just three days away, the Ohaneze Youth Council has called for the immediate removal of the INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega.
The group, which is the apex socio-political and cultural umbrella body of the youths of the Igbo people, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to sack Jega.
The youth organisation says it has no confidence in Jega’s ability to conduct free and fair elections on March 28 and April 11.
The council’s national president, Mazi Isiguzoro Okechukwumade, told newsmen on Tuesday, March 24:
“Jega will wreak unprecedented havoc on the country if he is allowed to preside over the conduct of the general elections. By his antecedents, he has shown preponderance of evidence which indicate that he is biased against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform under which President Goodluck Jonathan is contesting the presidential election, but favours the All Progressives Congress (APC), which has Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), as presidential candidate.”
“He should therefore, be sacked now before it is too late,” the group added.
The call for Jega’s removal has been continuing for a while. Earlier this month it was reported that the national coordinator of the Odua People’s Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, also called for the immediate sacking of Prof Jega.
