Ebonyi State government Wednesday said it has recovered N150million allegedly stolen at the state Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) in the recently concluded staff verification exercise across the state.
Governor Dave Umahi disclosed this at the Akanu Ibiam International Conference Centre, Abakaliki during an interactive session with journalists to mark this year’s Independent Anniversary and the 19th year the state was created.
He noted that the result of the verification exercise will soon be released which will reveal the total number of ghost workers discovered during the exercise and that more stolen money will be recovered.
He commended the Local Government Auditor-General, Chief George Ukpai for his experience in handling the exercise which he noted achieved the desired result and reiterated his readiness to tackle corruption with holistic approach.
Umahi, who regretted that solid foundation of the state was laid by the first civilian administration but was not built upon by the past administration, said each local government in the state must have at least one asphalted road in the next two years.
