Police in Sokoto State have arrested seven persons for being in possession of and circulating fake currency. The state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Salisu Abdullahi, disclosed this yesterday while decorating four officers who were promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police.
Abdullahi, who expressed dismay over the incessant circulation of N1,000 notes, advised people to always be conscious in all their daily transactions with their clients. The commissioner explained that his men recently arrested one Muhammad Sani with fake of N23,500.
According to him, the confiscated fake currencies were in N1,000 and N500 denominations. He added that the suspect confessed that it was one Arzika Abdullahi of Dange town who introduced him to one Iliyasu Usman, the alleged supplier the fake currency.
