The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe state Governors that are deliberately refusing the financial autonomy of the judiciary. The union at the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the Paschal Bafyau Labour House, Abuja, said disobeying the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as well as court order by the governors is an impeachable offence and should be vigorously investigated.
President of the union, Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu and its General Secretary, Isaiah Adetola, stated in a communique issued at the end of the meeting that corruption in the nation’s judicial system and in the country can be reduced if financial and total independence of Judiciary is granted. The union disclosed that a committee has been put in place to discuss what to do with state Governors who are fighting financial autonomy of judiciary.
This it described as criminal for any state governor to disregard the constitution which he sworn to uphold as well as the judgement of Federal High Court, Abuja on the matter after they failed to appeal the judgement within a stipulated time. While commending the Governors of Kastina, Jigawa, Oyo and Ondo states for respecting and complying with the provi-sion of the constitution, the union urged other state governors to follow suit to avoid industrial crisis in their respective states.
“NEC in session frowns bitterly at deliberate refusal of the other governors to obey the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended on the issue of the financial autonomy of the judiciary as declared by the Federal High Court Abuja on the 13th of January, 2014. “NEC in session while commending President Muhammadu Buhari on his ongoing anti corruption war, also urge him to continue and sustain the fight until victory is ensure,” JUSUN stated
