Shehu of Borno lauds UNIMAID for defying Boko Haram threat

The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn-Garbai, has commended the authorities of University of Maiduguri for imparting knowledge to student despite security challenges in the state.

Shehu made the commendation when he received the members of the contact committee on the 40th Anniversary Celebrations and combined 22nd Convocation ceremony of the University in his palace in Maiduguri on Thursday.

He said that the Boko Haram insurgency would soon be a thing of the past judging from the pronouncement of President Muhammadu Buhari and the service chiefs.
Borno, the Shehu further observed, had witnessed a lot of good and bad times since time immemorial.

He, however, said that with prayers and support from the government and people of the state it had always been able to surmount all these problems.

The Shehu also expressed appreciation to Governor kashim Shettima for the assistance and support he had been rendering to the Internally Displaced Persons in the state.

Earlier, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, the Vice Chancellor of the university, said the visit was to pay homage to the Shehu as one of the distinguished alumnus of the university.

Njodi said that the university would be 40 years in October 2015 since its establishment and would therefore like to celebrate this feat as a lot had happened in the university since these past years.

According to him, the university will use the occasion to also organise its 22nd combined convocation ceremony.

“The university has not been able to organise convocation ceremony during the past years due to insurgency.

“Peace is gradually returning to the state.’’

He, therefore, thank the Shehu for the advice and inspiration he had been giving to the institution, and further solicited for his support, blessings and cooperation during the forthcoming events, reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
