Team Nigeria settle for silver in 100m at All Africa Games in Congo


Despite having three athletes in the final of the men’s 100m at the ongoing All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo, failed to win the race as Ogho-Oghene Egwero have to settled for the silver medal. Egwero had earlier won his semifinal race in 10.06secs but failed to replicate the form in the final as he finished the race in 10.17secs behind Cote d’Ivoire’s Youssef Meite, who won the race in 10.04secs. The other Nigerian in the 100m men, national champions, Seye Ogunlewe finished fourth in 10.45secs while Nicholas Imhoaperamhe finished seventh in 10.52secs.


In the women’s 100m final, the country’s sole representative in the absence of Queen of the track, Blessing Okagbare, Cecilia Francis finished fourth in 11.53secs in a race won by Cote d’Ivoire’s Marie Talou. Meanwhile, Team Nigeria quartermiler, Erayokan Orukpe, is upbeat about his chances of winning gold in the men’s 400m final after finally achieving his goal of running below 46secs, clocking 45.84secs and 44.95secs in two days in Congo.

Erayokan ran 45.84secs to finish second in his 400m heat on Sunday and improved on his time as he won the second 400m semifinal in 44.95secs, another personal best for the athlete.
