If Serena wins the US Open, she’ll achieve a Calendar Grand Slam and enter her name in the record books. Will she prevail in her quest for glory or will Roberta end Serena’s Grand Slam dreams?
Serena will meet Roberta on the court of the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sept. 11, a day after rain postponed their match. The winner goes on to the Finals in hopes of raising the trophy. After a rough start, Serena is back to her dominating ways. She got an easy break in the first round against Vitalia Diatchenko, blanking her 6-0 in the first set. Vitalia retired from the match, giving the victory to Serena. It wasn’t so easy when she faced Kiki Bertens in the second round. Kiki gave Serena a run for her money. She fought hard against Bethanie Mattek-Sands, but started looking like the champion she is by beating Madison Keys in an amazing display. When she faced Venus, the two Williams sisters put on a great show, with Serena moving on past her older sister.

If Serena wins the US Open, it will secure her a Calendar Grand Slam, or a victory at all four Major tennis tournaments in a single season. She has won the 2015 Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon. The last woman to pull off this feat was Steffi Graf in 1988.

Roberta has worked hard to get this far in the tournament. She easily defeated Vania King in the first round and beat Denisa Allertova in three sets during the second round. Roberta went three-sets against Mariana Duque-Marino in the third round.Eugenie Bouchard pulled out of the fourth round, giving Roberta a break. She needed her strength to put down Kristina Mladenovic in the quarterfinals, and her victory has led her to now face the best female tennis player in the world.
