Auto mechanic charged with theft of phones, N2,000 cash in Jos

A 20-year-old auto mechanic, Lukman Bello, was on Friday charged before a Jos Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing phones valued at N11,500.
Bello, who resides at Kwararafa Street in Jos North, is facing charges of criminal conspiracy and theft.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Thomas Amoku told the court that a police patrol team arrested and took the accused to the “A” Division Police Station on Oct. 22.

Amoku said the accused with three others still at large attacked a man, Ekemini Job of Apata Street and dispossessed him of his bag which contained his national identity card, voter’s card, two Tecno phones and N2, 000 cash.

The prosecutor said during police investigation the accused confessed to have committed the offences and one of the phones was recovered from him.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Naanlang Dashe, admitted the accused to bail of N100,000 in addition to a surety in like sum.

Dashe said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must submit to the court two recent passport photographs, national identity card or driver’s licence.

He adjourned the case to Nov. 17 for hearing.
