Last night, Leah Remini sat down for a 20/20 interview about her time in Scientology. During the one-hour special, the actress made a lot of statements about the "religion" that are frankly, incredibly disturbing.
In the interview, Leah opens up about Scientology targeting best friend, Jennifer Lopez. Leah says that church leaders pressured her into bringing J.Lo to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' wedding. When she arrived with the singing superstar, church officials immediately tried to separate the two women so they could narrow in on Jennifer. "They were always trying to extract me. I could only assume because they wanted to make Jennifer a Scientologist and maybe I was barring that road for them," she said in the interview.
Leah also said that at the wedding, Tom Cruise serenaded his bride with, "You've Lost That Loving Feeling," which she points out is an odd thing to sing to the woman you just married.
According to the interview, Leah had a bit of a strained relationship with Tom. When she visited his house for the first time (to give him salsa dancing lessons!), she says that Tom was forcibly kissing then-girlfriend Katie Holmes.
Further, when she was critical of Tom's jumping-on-the-couch Oprah appearance in 2015, she was heavily chastised.
"I was immediately dealt with," said Remini, "Being critical of Tom Cruise is being critical of Scientology itself. You are a person who is anti the aims and goals of Scientology. You are evil."
Right after the wedding, Katie Holmes sent the church a letter saying she was "dismayed" by Leah's behavior on her big day. In response, Leah was sent to the church's Sea Org facility in Florida for "reprogramming" to the tune of $300,000.
Leah left the church in 2013 and on November 4, 2015, her new autobiography about her time there, Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology, will be released.
