Match fixing: Ex-South African FA chief banned by FIFA


Match fixing in South Africa has come up once again after Lindile ‘Ace’ Kika, a former SA Football Association official was banned from the game for six years.

According to FIFA, Kika was banned from all football related activities for six years because of his involvement n fixinga number of international friendlies played in South Africa in 2010 – the same year the nation hosted the World Cup.

A FIFA statement reads in part: “The adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee, chaired by Hans-Joachim Eckert, has banned Lindile Kika, a former official of the South African Football Association (SAFA), from all football-related activities at national and international level for six years. The ban is effective immediately,” reads the statement.

“The proceedings against Lindile Kika were opened in November 2014 in relation to several international friendly matches played in South Africa in 2010.

“The investigation was led by the chairman of the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee, Dr Cornel Borbély, in collaboration with the FIFA Security Division.

“The decision was taken on the basis of art. 13 (General rules of conduct), art. 15 (Loyalty), art. 18 (Duty of disclosure, cooperation and reporting), art. 19 (Conflicts of interest) and art. 22 (Commission) of the FIFA Code of Ethics.”

The FIFA ethics committee has been doing some clean up of late in the reputation dented world governing body.

FIFA has already banned President Joseph S. Blatter, UEFA president and FIFA vice-president Michel Platini, and FIFA secretary general Jérôme Valcke (who has already been put on leave) for a duration of 90 days.
