The inquest held at Middlesbrough Town Hall was adjourned to a future date for further investigations to be completed.
Mason’s funeral will be held at 1pm on Thursday, October 22, at St Bede’s Chapel at Teesside Crematorium.
His devastated mum has paid tribute to her youngest child, calling him “amazing, funny, gorgeous and caring”.
Suzzanne, who is also mum to Laura, 26, and Reece, 22, and has a four-year-old grandson, Connor, has asked that those attending the funeral wear bright colours in tribute to Mason for being “such a bright person”.
She has also asked if his schoolfriends can wear their school uniforms - but wants to remind them they must get permission from Acklam Grange School before attending the funeral.
A JustGiving page set up by family friends Wendy James and Michelle Pringle has raised £1,860 so far.
The money raised will go towards Mason's funeral, including a horse-drawn carriage for the animal-loving boy.
