“Man and Woman” is an 8 meter (26 foot) tall moving steel sculpture. It was created by Georgian sculptor Tamara Kvesitadze and is located in the seaside city of Batumi, Georgia. The two statues represent a Muslim boy, Ali, and a Georgian princess, Nino, from a famous 1937 novel by Azerbaijani author Kurban Said. Their tragic story ends when the lovers become separated by the invasion of Soviet Russia. By the way, nobody knows the true identity of the author. But this powerful love story has been translated into more than 30 languages!
The statues spring into life every day at 7 pm. Their journey happens slowly over 10 minutes.
They merge for a short embrace, before leaving each other behind.
So touching!
And beautiful!
The statue was designed in 2007, but installed only in 2010.
