Boko Haram: DHQ dismisses plot to bomb S’West

Defence Headquarters yesterday described as ‘baseless,’ reports of alleged plans by Boko Haram to bomb Lagos and some other cities in the South-West. DHQ faulted the reports in a statement signed by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Col. Rabe Abubakar.

He reassured the public of the military’s resolve to defeat Boko Haram, adding that the robust synergy between the military and other security agencies had been yielding results.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Department of State Services (Borno State Department) have arrested a suspected Boko Haram commander, who was among the 100 kingpins recently declared wanted by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen.

Tukur Buratai. A statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said Danladi Abdullahi, who occupied the 26th position on the list of wanted top commanders of the sect, was apprehended at the Moduganari area of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The latest arrest brings to three the number of wanted suspects so far taken in by security operatives, since the COAS released a poster bearing the names, including that of the sect’s leader, Abubakar Shekau.

While Chindo Bello was arrested by airport security of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Ishaku Wardifen was rounded up at a military checkpoint in Adamawa State, by troops of the 23 Brigade Special Battalion.

In the statement, Buratai commended the DSS for what he described as “this singular act, resilience and continued support and cooperation in the fight against terrorism and insurgency”, adding that “The DSS has over times proven to be dependable and partners in the quest for a secured Nigeria.”

The statement added that: “Following the release of the poster containing photographs of 100 suspected Boko Haram terrorists, security agencies and the public have intensified search for them.

The renewed zeal has been yielding the desired result as the Borno State Command of Department of State Services (DSS) has this morning arrested another suspected high profile Boko Haram terrorist, Danladi Abdullahi at Moduganari area of Maiduguri metropolis.

“Although he is still being investigated, it has been positively established that he is suspect number 26 on the list of the declared suspected Boko Haram terrorists issued by the Nigerian Army last month.”
