Harry Kane scored two goals as Tottenham pummelled Chelsea 5-3 when the Blues last visited White Hart Lane and the England international will certainly be their tormentor-in-chief as Jose Mourinho’s men visit again tomorrow (Sunday). After starting their campaign slowly, Spurs have found their gears and have remained unbeaten in their last 12 matches with Kane being at the heart of the resurgence.
The 22-year-old England international managed just one goal in his first nine Premier League games of the season; however, following his double in Spurs’ 4-1 thrashing of West Ham on Sunday, he now has seven in his last four in the league. That run of form seems to have dispelled any doubts that he would fail to build upon his outstanding campaign last term when he struck 21 league goals and he has continued to attract attention from big clubs.
Mourinho’s Chelsea have been largely uninspiring since the start of the season but after they managed a back-to-back win for the first time since September there is a renewed hope that things are taking shape again at the Stamford Bridge. That will be effectively tested when John Terry-led defence line face up with Kane tomorrow.
But Terry and co will remember how his national teammate ran riot the last time and will be desperate to stop him now. Kane cannot be in a better frame of mind for this one after scoring his side only goal in their 1-0 win away at Qarabag FK on Thursday. Pochetino is happy his striker is enjoying rich vein of form but he was never in doubt of his talent when the youngster was struggling at the start of the season.
“When you are a striker, there are always tough periods but I never had doubts about Harry Kane. He is a top player. He is one of the best strikers in the Premier League,” Pochetino said. Kane will be the Argentine’s greatest weapon against their city rivals and the striker is most likely going to add to his 12 goals against all London-based teams in the last two seasons.
