Lafogido House withdraws suit in Ooni stool tussle

As the process of the coronation of Ooni of Ife elect, Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi enters the fourth day today, one of the contending royal families, the Lafogido Ruling House which dragged Ife Traditional Council to court over their decision to zone the kingship to the Giesi Ruling House, has withdrawn its case from the court. Lafogido which joined the Governor Rauf Aregbesola administration in the suit prayed the court to restrain the Giesi House from occupying the stool, as the decision of the kingmakers and the state government was fraudulent.

Source in the Lafogido House, told NewTelegraph yesterday that, the ruling house had withdrawn its case against the Ooni elect in the interest of the progress of the town and state. Impeccable sources further revealed that Counsel to the ruling house had been mandated since last week, to withdraw the case so as to work intandem with the Oba elect.

It was gathered that decision to discontinue with the case was made by the Lafogidos to be able to contribute their efforts in making the town more virile during the reign of the newly elected monarch and as well promote peace and tranquility in the kingdom.

Confirming the development on phone, former deputy governor of Osun State and the head of Sookos of Lafogido Ruling House, Chief Adeleke Adewoyin, said, “since a new monarch has been named by kingmakers and state government, there is nothing the ruling house can do again rather than to discontinue with the case.”

He, however, stressed that “the lafogido ruling house is ready to work with the new Ooni, to ensure that lopsidedness was corrected so that the stool may not be attracting litigation in the future”. Meanwhile, the coronation process for the new monarch currently on, at Ilofi, where the Ife traditionalists were expected to perform all the traditional rites for the coronation and presentation of staff of office.
