Licence revocation: Slok Air sues FG, others for N35bn

Slok Air Nigeria Limited yesterday sued the Federal Government through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and two others before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja over unlawful and illegal revocation of the operating licence of the airline by the Federal Government.
Other defendants in the suit are Ministry of Aviation and the Minster of Aviation.
The plaintiff is seeking the court order for the sum of N35 billion against the defendants.

In its Statement of Claim, the plaintiff through its counsel Chris Uche (SAN) contended that the revocation was done in gross violation of due process, without justification, without notice and in utmost bad faith.

The plaintiff prayed the court for a declaration that the operating licence granted to it is still valid and subsisting.
At the resumed hearing yesterday, the plaintiff informed the court that the matter was fixed for hearing.
However, counsel to the Ministry of Aviation, Chris Emi-Erabor, and counsel to the AGF, Mr. UC Okoli, pleaded with the court that they each had a motion for extension of time to file their defence.
The motions were not opposed by Uche, who however insisted that a clear date for hearing be taken, given the nature of the case.
Consequently, the trial judge, Justice A.R Mohammed adjourned till January 14, 2016 for hearing.

New Telegraph recalls ‎that the airline had acquired 13 Boeing 737-700 series aircraft for scheduled and non-scheduled flights in Nigeria, set up offices across the country and started operations in major airports, employing several pilots, air crew, ground staff before the said revocation.
