Over 30 people were feared killed and scores injured as an explosion struck near Jimeta-Jambutu Bye Pass, in Yola, the Adamawa State capital Tuesday night, emergency and security sources confirmed.
Reports say that the blast occurred at a busy tippers’ garage, along Jimeta Bye Pass Market.
Police spokesman DSP Othman Abubakar in a telephone chat, confirmed that there was loss of lives, saying that most of the affected persons were buyers and passersby. He, however, said he had yet to get details of the casualties although unconfirmed reports put the figure at over 30.
Hospital officials also appealed to the public to donate blood for the blast victims.
It would be recalled that a suspected suicide bomber had recently detonated a bomb in a Friday mosque in Yola. Tuesday’s blast is coming barely five days after President Muhammadu Buhari visited the state during which he declared that the Boko Haram insurgency will soon be a thing of past.
