The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, yesterday commended gave the assurance that his men would soon rescue Mrs Madam Ogere Siasia. The mother of Nigeria’s former international and current Head Coach of the Under-23 of national team, ‘Dream Team IV,’ Samson Siasia, was abducted by gunmen at Odoni village in Saghama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Monday.
But Arase, who was in Ibadan during a visit to Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, said the police were working round the clock to ensure the safe return of the septuagenarian.
Arase said the main challenge the force initially had in securing the release of Siasia’s mother was the terrain in which the abductors operate. The IG, however, said the challenges were now being overcome and that the woman would soon return home.
He said: “The police are working to ensure the woman is released as soon as possible. The difficulty we have initially is the terrain in that area. Mostly, the abductors come through the riverine areas but we are working and overcoming that and I can assure you that she will be released very soon.”
The IG also commended Ajimobi for the roles he has been performing in supporting the Oyo State Police Command. Arase also disclosed that six high profile kidnappers were recently arrested by policemen he dispatched for the operation from Abuja.
“I want them to realise and see members of the community as strategic and important partners to successful community policing. More so, that they must be human rights compliant and respect the rule of law in the discharge of their duties by not harming those they are supposed to protect.”
In his contribution, the state Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade, said the purpose of the interactive session with the IG was to intimate him on how his directive on community partnership had been yielding results in the state.
