Madness? Man robs bank to buy Christmas tree

A man has robbed a bank and used the money to purchase a Christmas Tree in Oregon. The 28-year-old Brett Gillispie-Comstock went to a Selco Community Credit Union twice on December 16 before he told a teller he wanted to open an account and handed her a note demanding $5,000, according to FBI.

Gillispie-Comstock got away with $1,373 in an envelope and Bend police officers found him nearby about 40 minutes after the robbery and arrested him, the Oregonian reported.

He told the employee: ‘I hope you have really good holidays.’

Once he was taken into custody, Gillispie-Comstock was charged with third-degree robbery, theft by receiving, first-degree theft and tampering with evidence, according to KTVZ.

Authorities said Gillespie-Comstock told investigators that he and his mother had lost $400 gambling and that they needed money for rent, Christmas presents and a Christmas tree.
