Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has said the justification President Muhammadu Buhari gave for his government’s refusal to grant former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki,(rtd) and others the bail they were granted by the court has taken the country a step closer to a totalitarian regime.
Fani-Kayode while reacting to Buhari’s media chat, said: “We are not yet in a democracy. How can the president not feel bad that court orders are not being obeyed?
“I am worried by the fact that the president is trying to be the prosecutor, the jury and the judge. First, he does not believe that they should be granted bail. He will not allow them to enjoy the bail granted them. I am worried. He has taken us one step closer to a totalitarian regime.”
Buhari had during his maiden media chat on Wednesday frowned at the bail granted to the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, saying that with the magnitude of corruption perpetrated by Dasuki and others, it will be unreasonable to have them granted bail.
He said the Court is expected to hear other charges against the former NSA before Dasuki could be considered for bail.
