One person was Monday injured when hoodlums numbering over 10 invaded a police station in Noyo Community, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
An eyewitness said the hoodlums were armed with Ak-47 assault rifles when they stormed the police station in the morning.
He noted that some policemen, who were on duty, ran away on sighting the hoodlums.
Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Peace Abdallah, however, said her men had foiled an attempt by the hoodlums to set the police station ablaze as all their efforts to burn down the station were aborted.
“The gang, who operated with AK47 rifles, poured petrol and threw fire into the DPO’s office before they were repelled by the superior fire power of officers on duty.
“All the officers and men at the station are safe except a guard who sustained injury during the attack,” she disclosed.
