The Sultan Of Sokoto And president -General, Nigerian Supreme Council For Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, yesterday said that the practice of Islam without love is vanity. He appealed to all Muslims in the country to live in love to make it a virile one.
The monarch, who made the charge at the official commissioning of the Wings Schools Central Mosque in Iwo, Osun State, argued that it was only in love that the progress of any country could be sustained. According to him:”Any society could be better lived if all Muslims close ranks and become agents of advancement. A good practicing Muslim should not pretend to be one but work religiously to uphold its doctrinal principle which is love”.
He, however, charged them to live as one and jettison acrimony and mistrust that could bring bitterness into their circle. In his own speech at the occasion, a first class traditional ruler in Osun State, the Oluwo Of Iwoland, Oba Adul Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, also charged Muslims across the globe to always centre their preaching of Jihad around love.
Oba Akanbi, who argued that centering of Islamic preaching on Sharia of punishment and killing has caused a lot of setback, segregation and disharmony among Muslim faithful in the country, affirmed that it was only Sharia of love that could promote peace in the circle.
He opined that many qualities like tolerance, endurance, peace, harmony, mutual understanding, sacrifice among others were embedded in love and expressed optimism that, if love reigns supreme in the Islamic circles, remarkable progress would be recorded and appealed to them to always embrace love in their various dealings.
