A Federal High Court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, yesterday adjourned the trial of Yunusa Dahiru aka Yellow, the alleged abductor of 14-year-old Ese Oruru, till May 12. Dahiru was granted bail in the sum of N3 million about one month ago but he is yet to perfect his bail conditions. One of the conditions is for him to provide two sureties one of who must be a level 12 officer with a title holder.
However, Ese’s counsel still prayed that her evidence be taken in the secret.
But Kayode Olaosebikan, counsel to Yunusa, argued that Ese’s evidence must be taken in public like others since the news had been in the public domain.
Yunusa was accused of abducting Ese in August last year from Yenagoa to Kano where he allegedly converted her to Islam and married her in the Islamic way. Although Ese is back in Yenagoa and she is presently said to be pregnant, she is not seen in public. Her parents and siblings have also relocated from their former abode to a new place secured by Bayelsa State government.
