A 16-year-old boy, Rilwan Okegbenro, has told the police in Lagos that he was a member of the gang which killed a man, Olawale Adebayo, at Ikorodu, recently. Okegbenro and 17 others were arrested yesterday during a raid on criminal hideouts by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS). According to the police, Okegbenro confessed to have participated in last month’s murder of Adebayo (22), behind Wema Bank on Sagamu Road, Ikorodu.
The PPRO said aside the teenager’s confession, Adebayo’s brother, Ismaila Balogun, had identified the suspect as one of the killers. She said: “The raid was done in collaboration with local vigilantes on various black spots within Sabo, Odogunyan and Igbogbo community all in Ikorodu and 18 suspects were arrested after the raid.
“During interrogation, the suspect (Okegbenro) confessed to be a cult member and to have participated in the killing of Olawale Adebayo, a resident of 10, Imosun Close, Ikorodu. “The deceased was killed on February 20, behind Wema Bank, Sagamu Road, Ikorodu.
He stated also that two of his gang members that participated in the killing are on the run. Hence, the command has launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects. “Investigation is still ongoing. The Lagos State command has vowed to sustain the clampdown on all criminals in the state in order to continuously make Lagos a safe place for all.”
