INEC Gives Conditions For Conduct Of Suspended Rerun Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given conditions for the conduct of suspended court order elections in some states.

The commission has deferred the conduct of rerun elections in Imo North senatorial zone and three state constituencies in Imo State, Kogi East senatorial zone and some federal and state constituencies in Rivers State, among others due to violence.

In a statement on Friday by Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Augusta Ogakwu, INEC said for it to return to the field to complete the elections,‎ there must be “firm and unequivocal commitment to violence-free polls by the affected political parties and relevant stakeholders.”

According to the statement: “Security agencies must give an assurance that it is safe to return through the guarantee of peace, order and safety of all election officials, voters, other stakeholders, materials, polling units and facilities to be used for the elections by the security agencies.”
