Ladipo Traders Protest Demolition, Killing

Traders at Ladipo Auto Spare Parts Market, Mushin, Lagos, yesterday demanded justice over the alleged illegal demolition of their shops and killing of one of their members. The traders, who staged a peaceful protest at the market, asked the police to arrest the alleged killers.

The protesters carried placards with different inscriptions some of which read: “We need justice and equity in Ladipo Market,” “Governor Ambode, protect Ladipo traders,” “Lagos State Government, save our souls.”

According to the President General of the market, Mr. Kingsley Ogunor, who led the protest, his members’ shops at Odo-Aladura Toyota, were destroyed with goods worth millions of naira. Ogunor said although three persons had been arrested and charged to court for Anene Utazi’s killing, the main suspect was still walking free on the streets.

The president-general alleged that the destruction was carried out by a gang. He said: “We are peaceful people at Ladipo. All we are demanding is justice over the killing of one us and the destruction of our shops with goods. “We appeal to the police to redouble their efforts in the arrest and prosecution of the ring leader of the hoodlums that attacked us.”
