Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, has rebuffed Chelsea’s move to commence discussions on a new deal as the midfielder prefers the two parties stay action until the end of the season.
With his deal set to run out in the next 15 months, Chelsea wanted him to commit his future to the team on time.
Chelsea did not get a positive reply after the midfielder was approached few weeks ago to prolong his stay at Stamford Bridge, and he told The Blues that he would only decide his future at the end of theseason.
“Mikel was invited to the office after a train- ing session and preliminary talks took place but it ended soon after it started,” a source privy to the discussion between Chelsea and Mikel said.
“The length of the contract being offered by Chelsea is not known because he wasn’t ready to discuss with them until the end of the season.”
