Oyo House Summons IBEDC Over Crazy Bills, Extortion

Following series of complaints of extortion through crazy bills filed by customers against the electricity provider in Oyo, the Oyo State House of Assembly Tuesday summoned the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to defend itself.

This followed a motion co-sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abdulwasi Musah (Saki West) and Hon. Gbenga Oyekola (Atiba) during the plenary presided over by Hon. Micheal Adeyemo, Speaker of the House.
While reading the motion, Hon. Oyekola opined that IBEDC has constituted itself to a pebble in the shoes of the socio-economic development of the state on one hand, and an harbinger of frustration to both corporate and private power consumers.
“The irregular power supply, billing for unused electricity, hoarding of pre-paid meters to consumers to ensure status quo of fleeing the customers’ fraudulent alliance between the IBEDC marketers and the registered electrical contractors remain a cog in the wheel of progress of the state,” the lawmaker noted.
The Assembly was therefore urged to invite the management of power station to appear before its next sitting to explain reasons for its lack-luster performance and how to improve its services in the state
