Police in Bauchi State yesterday arrested four suspects who specialised in kidnapping and robbery at Darazo, Bununu and Kundan axis of the state. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Haruna Mohammed, said the suspects were arrested by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
He said: “The command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit smashed a syndicate and arrested four suspects who specialised in kidnapping and armed robbery, especially along Darazo, Bununu and Kundan axis of Bauchi State.”
The PPRO gave the names of the suspects as Samaila Mohammed (20) of Yalwan Jikar in Alkaleri Local Government Area, Ibrahim Musa (20) of Dawi of Soro in Ganjuwa Local Government Area, Sani Mohammed (22) of Burga town in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area and Abubakar Ahmed (22) of Mundamiyo in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
He said items recovered from them included two fabricated revolver long range guns with nine rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition and one revolver pistol with six rounds of 0.9mm ammunition. Others, according to him, are 13 rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition and one round of 7.62 mm ammunition. However, the PPRO disclosed that all the suspects had confessed to carrying out numerous kidnappings and armed robberies.
Meanwhile, the police following intelligence report, recovered a cache of ammunition buried inside Lame/Burra forest, a known criminals’ hideout.
The police, according to Mohammed, recovered 60 rounds of ammunition for General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), 80 rounds of 7,62 mm ammunition, two empty magazines and one expended ammunition of anti-aircraft gun. The PPRO enjoined members of the public not to relent in providing useful information to enable the police to provide security in the state.
