Two Plumbers To Spend 4 Weeks In Jail For Impersonating Soldiers

A Gudu Upper Area Court in the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday sentenced two plumbers, Mohammed Awalu and Mohammed Dauda, to four weeks imprisonment for impersonating soldiers.

Awalu, 23, and Dauda, 29, pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and impersonating a public servant contrary to section 97 and 132 of the penal code.

The presiding judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, who convicted them, however, gave them an option of fine of N40, 000 each.

The Prosecutor, Oyeyemi Adeniyi, had told the court that men of the Nigerian Army Guard Brigade reported the matter at the police station on March 9, 2016, reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Adeniyi said that the convicts were arrested by Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operatives and handed over to military authorities when it was discovered that they were not soldiers.

He told the court that both men were dressed in military regalia with the intension to release one of their friends detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
