Versatile artiste, vocalist, dancer, lyricist and judge of reality show, Nigerian Idol, Yinka Davies is among top Nigerian artistes who grace the launching of Edak Willie Empowerment Foundation launch, book presentation and documentary film screening. Yinka Davies will thrill guests at the event which holds tomorrow Thursday 7th April, at Nigeria Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos, in Celebration of World Health Day.
According Willie, the producer of the popular television magazine programme, Edak Willie Show, the book presentation and documentary are on a Lassa fever. “It is Lassa Fever/Environmental Hygiene Sensitization Workshop for young Nigerians.
It is organized by Edak Willie Empowerment Foundation,” she explains. “Yinka Davies and Albert Kanu will perform. Apart from the workshop, there is also a book presentation and documentary film screening.”
She added that the Royal Father of the day, is HRM Oba Dokun Thompson, The Olooni of Eti-Oni, Osun State, while dignitaries including Nollywood stars and musicians will also grace the event.
The speakers, according to her, include Commissioner of Health Lagos State, Dr. Jide Idris, Commissioner of Health Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, Commissioner of Health Bayelsa State, Dr. Ayibatonye Owei, Commissioner of Health Ekiti State, Dr. Olurotimi Ojo, and Hon. Abike Dabiri Erewa, SSA on Foreign Affair and the Diaspora to President, Buhari.
Others are Dr. Charles Elikwu, Department of Microbiology, Babcock UTH, Dr. Kemi Odukoya, Consultant Comm. Health Physician, LUTH, Mr. Udom Inoyo, Executive Director Exxon Mobil. The event, she further stated, is in line with what she is doing with Edak Williev Show, a 30 minutes TV magazine designed to educate its viewers on health and lifestyle issues.
“Sadly, norms and opinions in African societies today are still fuelled by ignorance.
Man lives in constant fear of what he does not understand and so attributes it to the sketchy regions of the supernatural. “’The Edak Willie’ show aims light on these issues thereby bring about better understanding for viewers through knowledge-based discourse.
Ultimately, we hope to effect positive changes in the society through the medium of television broadcasting and in so doing dispel myths; that inhibiting factor to every human attempt at progress.

That is where we come in to help them raise fund or to provide the means for such treatment. On the focus on Lassa Fever, he said: “You know, the major cause of Lasa fever is dirty environment, which means that keeping our environments clean is one way of avoiding the fever which is transmitted from animals), in that it spreads to humans from rodents, specifically multimammate mice (Mastomys natalensis). “The whole idea is to create awareness, basically, among school children, about the fever and what to do to avoid falling victim.”
