An 18-year-old girl at Ishiagu village of Nkalagu community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Chiamaka (surname withheld), is currently battling to stay alive after she was allegedly raped by a man identified as Anayo Ajaoku aka Ashawo.
Chiamaka was sleeping in her mother’s shop in the area when Ajaoku broke into the shop and, at gunpoint, forcibly had carnal knowledge of her. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP George Okafor, confirmed the incident yesterday.
He said: “On May 22, about 8:50hrs, Chiamaka (surname withheld) of Abia State, resident at Ishielu, came in company with her brother, Vincent Eze, and reported how she was raped by Ajaoku (aka Ashawo) who later made away with her N3,500 in the shop.’’
The PPRO said police had visited the scene of the incident and had arrested the suspect. According to him, the suspect will soon be arraigned. Okafor said the victim was currently receiving treatment in one of the hospitals in the state. He urged youths to control their lust for women as the law would take its course on anyone found guilty of rape.
