Governor Ibikunle Amosun and the organised labour in Ogun State Sunday disagreed over the ability of the state government to pay the proposed N56, 000 minimum wage.
While Amosun declared that governors of the federation have now become “endangered species” due to the prevailing cash crunch in the country, the workers argued that they were suffering and needed new financial raise.
Amosun said at the event that despite the differences his administration had with labour unions, it had been able to pay monthly salary to workers consistently.
He added that he succeeded in paying one out of the backlog of deductions in the month of April, saying the gesture underscored the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
The governor, who disclosed that the state currently owes N65billion debt, said his government judiciously expended the bailout funds.
