Fear Of Arrest: PDP Officials Desert Secretariat

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has invited a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, for an “interview” on Monday. Fani-Kayode may answer questions bordering on the N840 million he was said to have received as director, media and publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation.

The Director of Finance of the PDP campaign organisation and former Minister of Finance, Mrs. Esther Nenadi Usman, and former Imo State Governor, Achike Udenwa, both had had their own sessions with the EFCC interrogators.

In the letter of invitation signed by Mr. Mohammed Umar Abba on behalf of the Acting Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, EFCC said: “This commission is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Fraud and Money Laundering involving Joint Trust Dimension Limited in which you featured prominently.”

The anti-graft agency added that: “This request is made pursuant to section 38 (1) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act 2004 and section 21 of Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011.” Consequently, the former Aviation minister is expected at the Commission’s headquarters, Abuja, on Monday, at 10am prompt.

While confirming receipt of the letter, the Special Adviser to Fani-Kayode on Media, Mr. Jude Ndukwe, said the former minister will honour the invitation. He said: “The EFCC wrote a letter of invitation to my principal…this morning (Friday) asking that he report to their Abuja office on the morning of May 9 for a discussion.

“The letter of invitation was delivered to his Abuja home and he has responded promptly through his lawyers by assuring the EFCC that he would make himself available on Monday morning to assist in their investigations.” But commenting on the letter, Fani-Kayode took to his twitter handle @olufemiolukayode and said:

“Today, the EFCC invited me to come to their office on Monday. I have their letter. I agreed to be there. Now they have surrounded my house. “The letter of invitation was served this morning and it was dated May 6. They said I should report on the May 9.

“Can someone please tell me why they are at my gate? They can’t even wait because they want to detain me so badly and keep me away for the weekend. I never refused their invitation. Why all this? I leave them to God. “Over 50 to 100 policemen were around my house for eight hours and the letter was served at 8a.m and acknowledged it at 9a.m”.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that the operatives who earlier stormed the No 5, Zuma Close, off Aso Drive, Abuja home of Fani- Kayode have left the place. An eye-witness who visited the scene of the siege but pleaded anonymity, said, the operatives of the anti-graft agency decided to leave when hordes of pressmen began to storm his residence.
