NANS Protest Fuel Price Hike In Owerri

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Monday staged a peaceful protest in Owerri against the recent hike in fuel price.

The placard-wielding students, numbering over 700,

took to the streets of Owerri, the Imo State capital causing heavy gridlock, while declaring their solidarity with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on the planned nation-wide strike action calling for the reversal of the fuel price hike by the Federal Government.

The angry youths, escorted by a detachment of armed mobile policemen, noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is evidently inflicting pain on Nigerians and delivering what is contrary to their campaign promises as regards fuel subsidy.

They recalled that the APC promised to reduce price of petrol to N40 per litre during their campaigns but regretted that after one year in office, they have instead hiked fuel price to N145 beyond the reach of ordinary Nigerians.
