RRS Stops Woman, Baby From Jumping Into Lagoon

A 27-year-old woman, Halimat Adegoke (not real name) has told the police in Lagos how a voice ordered her to jump into the Lagos Lagoon with her 12-month-old baby. Officials of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were said to have prevented the woman from committing suicide with her daughter by plunging into the Lagoon on the third Mainland Bridge.

It was learnt that a cab driver had called the attention of the RRS officials patrolling the area to the planned action of the woman around 5pm on Tuesday. Adegoke was said to have confessed to the police that after she heard the voice calling her to come to the Lagoon she trekked from Medina Estate in Gbagada to Third Mainland Bridge. She said: “Immediately I heard the voice, I harkened to the call because it was coming repeatedly from the person calling me.”

The woman, described as a University of Lagos (UNILAG) dropout, was said to have had issues with her husband prompting her to relocate to her parents’ house in Gbagada. The policemen later released Adegoke and her baby to her family members
