A suicide bomb attack on Borno State secretariat, Maiduguri, on Thursday, left two persons dead and 19 others injured.
A security official at the gate of the secretariat, who spoke on condition of anonymity to our correspondent, said the incident happened at about 12pm.
According to him, workers at the secretariat had embarked on a verification exercise in order to fish out ghost workers.
The security officials said the suicide bomber had a file on him to show at the gate that he was a civil servant working at the secretariat.
He said, “We had to turn him back when he could not present an identity card. To our surprise, a few metres from the security post, the suicide bomber detonated the bomb strapped on him, killing himself and two other persons immediately.
“The explosion equally caused injuries to 19 other persons who were rushed to the Borno State General Hospital, Maiduguri, for treatment.”
He said the corpses of the two deceased were equally deposited at the morgue of the hospital.
However, a reliable source said he saw rescue workers carrying away four corpses from the scene of the explosion.
