Two Killed, One Injured As Tanker Explodes In Ondo

Two persons including the driver and motor boy were burnt to death when a fuel tanker accident occurred at the Ofusu axis of the Benin-Ore Road in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

However, one of the occupants of the vehicle escaped with serious injuries in the accident that caused traffic gridlock along the busy road.
Sources in the commercial town of Ore said the fully laden with Automated Gas Oil (diesel) exploded some 28 kilometres after the town around 3pm Thursday.
One of the eye witnesses said the accident occurred when the driver of the tanker lost control of the vehicle and tumbled while the truck caught fire immediately.
It was learnt that the tanker driver, with about 33,000 litres of diesel, was said to have tried to escape, but the truck caught fire before he could get out of the vehicle.
The eyewitness said the driver of the truck and one other person in the vehicle were burnt beyond recognition while the third person was rescued by people and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
