Two civil servants, Mr. Oluwaseun Adegoke and Ojo David Olanrewaju, out of over 16,000 civil servants, allegedly involved in fraudulent practices, including collection of multiple salaries running into millions of naira in Oyo State have been arraigned at the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court.
The accused who appeared in courts two and three presided over by Magistrates A. F. Richard and A. A. Adebisi, respectively, were brought into the courtroom by operatives of the Department of State Security Services.
They were accused of fraudulently receiving, on monthly basis, millions of naira with fictitious names.
They were arraigned on a seven-count charge each which they pleaded not guilty to.
In the separate charge sheets signed by Kofoworola Akinbode and Adeyemi Opakunle, Ojo was accused of fraudulently receiving N839,940 in one fictitious name, through his First Bank Account 2024570782. He allegedly committed the offence in other remaining charges
against him.
The second accused, Adegoke, was alleged to have used some fictitious names claiming they were NYSC members to make illegal withdrawals. The names he allegedly used to withdraw the monthly salaries were: Oluwasanmi Adekunle J., Abiona Bukola A and Akande Hammed Ololade.
He allegedly withdrew N1,287,708; N839,940; N443,037,76; N438,731.62; N721,986.37 and N639,124.49 under false pretences.
The two accused, through their counsel, sought for bail which were granted by the magistrates.
Ojo was granted bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties, one of whom must be a higher officer in the civil service while Adegoke was granted bail in the sum of N10m with three reliable sureties.
One of the sureties must be a civil servant on Grade Level 15 while the second surety must be a land owner with property worth N10m and the third a blood relation. All the property must be verified. The case has been adjourned till July 23, 2016.
The newspaper reliably gathered that other suspects discovered by the screening committee set up by Governor Abiola Ajimobi have escaped arrest and gone into hiding for fear of being prosecuted.
