Conte Confirms Chelsea Captain Ahead Of Next Season

The new Chelsea coach Antonio Conte has confirmed that John Terry will remain as the captain of the team.

The manager disclosed this to newsmen during his first press conference as the club’s head coach on Thurday, July 14.

John to sign his latest contract extension with the club recently.

Terry was earning £140,000 but he took a huge pay cut which now reduces his wages to ‘just’ £50,000. That translates to a loss of almost £5m a year for the former England man, who is said to have turned down lucrative moves to China to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

The new deal is said to have a number of performance and appearance based clauses in it, but Terry has been warned that incoming manager Antonio Conte does not see him as an automatic starter at centre-back.

Gary Cahill and a fit-again Kurt Zouma are expected to be first choice centre-back pairing with Terry expected to aid their developments.

Terry is Chelsea’s most successful captain, having led them to four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups and one UEFA Champions League title since 2004.

Meanwhile, the club have (about N11bn) fee with English Premier League champions Leicester City for star midfielder N’Golo Kante.

It was reported that the France international midfielder has rejected a new offer with his current club that includes a weekly salary of £100,000, although he noted the Foxes are ready to make the player a better offer in an attempt to keep him.

At the 2015/2016 season, Kante displayed exceptional skills and his effort pivoted the Foxes to the summit of the Premier League and holding their nerve in the final weeks of the season.

Kante’s main assets are his defensive qualities while he is capable in possession and can drive forward with the ball. It was also disclosed that the new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is keen on getting midfielder on board would be a brilliant piece of business.
